SnowWorld Group - Europe's leading operator of indoor ski resorts and leisure destinations is a fast-growing organisation with 12 locations spread across 5 countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom). We are looking for an international, innovative Technical Director to oversee the physical engineering and technical infrastructure for our entire group.

Purpose of the Position

The Technical Director provides strategic engineering leadership for the organization, directing our technical and facility teams to ensure the reliability, sustainability, and optimization of our physical infrastructure. This role ensures the flawless operation of our complex technical assets—including large-scale cooling installations, snowmaking systems, and building facilities—delivering infrastructure solutions that support daily operations and lay the foundation for sustainable future growth.

Job Description

Leadership and Guidance of Engineering Teams

• Leading, motivating, and developing regional technical and facility teams, setting clear operational goals and expectations.
• Creating a safety-first environment that encourages mechanical innovation and continuous improvement.
• Delegating maintenance tasks and capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects based on the expertise of team members.

Development of Engineering Strategies and Roadmaps

• Establishing a long-term engineering vision that aligns with business objectives, particularly regarding energy transition and infrastructure lifespan.
• Developing strategic asset management roadmaps to ensure operational continuity and competitive advantage.
• Identifying and integrating new mechanical technologies, cooling methods, and sustainability processes that improve energy efficiency and business performance.

Achieving Technical Excellence and Standardization

• Maintaining high-quality standards and uniform maintenance protocols across all locations and physical assets.
• Regularly assessing and optimizing existing mechanical installations, HVAC, and refrigeration systems to improve efficiency, safety, and performance.
• Ensuring the implementation of best practices in facility management, predictive maintenance, and operational engineering.

Risk and Crisis Management

• Proactively identifying and mitigating physical, mechanical, and infrastructural risks.
• Developing and implementing effective crisis management plans for equipment failures, facility emergencies, or operational downtimes.

Budget and Resource Management

• Managing the technical and facility budget, including allocating resources for capital projects, maintenance, physical upgrades, and personnel.
• Optimizing the allocation of engineering resources and managing relationships with external technical contractors and suppliers.

Stakeholder Management and Communication

• Effectively communicating infrastructure strategy and project progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborating with other directors to ensure that physical infrastructure solutions support and strengthen venue operations.
• Serving as the technical point of contact for senior management, regulatory bodies, and external engineering partners.

Innovation and Sustainability

• Leading initiatives to create innovative engineering solutions that drive sustainability and reduce energy consumption.
• Keeping up with the latest trends in refrigeration, climate control, and facility engineering, applying this knowledge to future-proof our venues.

The Technical Director is part of the senior management team and has an advisory role towards the General Managers of the SnowWorld venues. The head office of SnowWorld is located in the town of Roosendaal in the Netherlands.

What We Ask

• 7+ years of experience in a technical senior leadership role focused on physical engineering, facilities, or infrastructure.
• Strong expertise with large-scale cooling installations, refrigeration, or HVAC systems.
• WO or HBO bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facility Management, or a similar technical engineering direction.
• Experience in a multi-country or regional operational function.
• Experience managing technical assets in a multi-location company.
• Experience in a scale-up or fast-growing organization.
• Good command of the Dutch and English languages, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in the German and/or French language is a strong advantage.
